I purchased Dragon 14 during the $100 sale, and downloaded the program. I found that the 49 meg setup.exe file is not really the installer.

It is an installer to get an installer, meaning that when you run setup.exe, it will download the real multi-gig Dragon installation software in the background. How and from where can I download the real installation software? I know that setup.exe will do it for me, but it won't make the downloaded full installer file available to me after it finishes. I want to permanently have a copy of the full installer. There are various reasons why I want this. One reason, as someone explained on a separate post, without the full installer, you cannot use Windows control panel to do a 'Repair'.

Thanks, Scott. Lunis - thank you for suggesting that we contact Nuance. I contacted (800) 654-1187, which is Customer Service. The representative had two suggestions for getting the full installer. One is to get the backup disk (which they are able to submit the order for us, even if we did not select getting the disk during the original order). The other approach is to call their online group at 888-372-1908 (select option 4 for download issues) and ask them if there is a way to download the full installer file. He also bought the backup disk for $9.99, which is a full install at 3.5 gb. This is an update to my earlier post. According to an email I have received from Nuance there is little point in me acquiring the backup disk because according to the email from their customer services here in the UK. The backup disc only contains the 50MB installer and there is absolutely nowhere that I can download the full 3.5GB full install because it hasn't been made available. According to them the only installer I will need is 50MB in size. So it would appear I'm not going to be able to put it onto DVD and I better pray I don't ever lose the 50MB installer. I've certainly learnt my lesson I will not buy from Nuance direct ever again.

Attitudes like theirs encourages P2P file sharing in my humble opinion. Not that I would ever encourage such practices. This is 1 of several good reasons to avoid purchasing directly from the manufacturer. When you purchase from a reseller, you still have Nuance's support but you additionally gain a 2nd layer of support with your licensed resellers who often include additional perks. Our customers receive a complimentary copy of our KnowBrainer and a complimentary FULL download of DPI 14.

If you check your today's email, you'll find a complimentary full DPI 14 download. Personally I think that P2P is the way to go, after all Microsoft and Windows 10 use the principal. Providing people did not share the codes which can only be used five times anyway or come up with a permanent crack for the activation I think it is a great way to distribute the software. I suggested that Lunis did it as it would make downloading his full installs from his own servers so much easier putting less strain on the system. I am sure that there are a few pundits on the forum who would know how to do this.

P2P was a great idea but unfortunately it has a bad reputation. I first encountered during the looking for extraterrestrial life system that harnessed the spare CPU and bandwidth uses of hundreds if not thousands of amateur enthusiasts. I would be happy to leave my bit torrent software running if somebody like Lunis agreed that it was a viable proposition. So it seems to be the complete program. I don't know if Customer Service was incorrect when they told Ken Mac that the DVD would only contain the abbreviated 50 mb installer, or if Nuance has a different DVD for UK.

I am located in USA. I'm guessing Nuance has a different attitude towards its UK users because my email definitely states the DVD will be in the form of a CD with only the 50MB installer on it. However for me it is all academic now because the good people of KnowBrainer have come to my rescue. I love this site and the people on it.

I am a 'wild colonial boy' from the UK. P2P is not in itself illegal nor should such a great community system be downplayed because of the way in which folk choose to use it. As I say Microsoft 10 uses the system. I have been sharing large files via torrent for many years. I am certainly not concerned about using it.

Having downloaded files from KnowBrainer and other companies that take a very long time and cannot stand the connection being interrupted I think that using torrents is an acceptable practice. The fact that pirated software and copyright material is channelled through this system only shows how efficient the system is. To refrain from using it because people use for illegal purposes is a bit like refusing to show a video on your system because some videos ought never to be seen.

Anyway, I completely agree with your assessment concerning KnowBrainer, Lunis & Lindsay and the rest of the forum members. I believe it is one of the best forums available on the Internet. Its tone and atmosphere is informative and encouraging. Cheers for now Dan - The forum has me as a Top-Tier Member NO I am a laid-back layman. Believe me Sir I have learnt my lesson and will never purchase from Nuance directly again. The sales email I received here in the UK was very confusing because it implied that I could only get the deal from Nuance directly, that it wasn't available anywhere else and foolishly I fell for it. Within minutes of opening the email I was on their site paying them £99.99 which for a full-blown copy of professional albeit with networking/roaming removed or whatever it was they removed was an absolute bargain. My personal circumstances would never have afforded me the opportunity to purchase a full-blown copy of professional so I thought I was onto a winner.

Unfortunately when the email arrived I was recovering from a PC crash and hadn't yet got around to installing my RSS reader which meant I wasn't getting any feeds from KnowBrainer like I normally would. I may not contribute to the forum often but I am here most days reading and learning like I did when I first found the site. The people at KnowBrainer are absolute heroes in my eyes but I fear none of you will ever fully understand how what you do has transformed my life. Your software and your help over the years has set me free as it were. To mention individuals would be unfair but I can't complete this post without personally offering my sincerest thanks to everybody at KnowBrainer and those associated with it. I do though have to offer my special thanks to Lunis and Lindsay who are the two people I've come into contact with the most and they are without doubt two people who will go just that little bit further to do what ever they can to help you.

I salute you gentlemen and I thank you sincerely. Ken, Nuance UK is part of the Nuance system, but they have their own policies and procedures. All I can confirm is that the DVD that I got from Nuance US is the full set of install files (3.xx GB). Given that, Lindsay is a UK VAR, perhaps he can provide you with the clearer explanation of differences between Nuance US and Nuance UK. The error message that you receive does not refer to a specific network, it simply means that your Internet connection failed. Obviously you have to have an Internet connection to download anything.

What happened is relative to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and may be a problem with your download application or your Internet connection speed. We would need more detailed information in order to try and help you understand what went on when this error occurred. Chuck 'Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.'

I have an ADSL2 wired Internet connection with a wireless network to the house. I think some type of download manager/accelerator is not a bad idea BUT some sites do not like serving files to download accelerators. The thing about a torrent is that it takes the burden off the original service for the distribution of the data and spreads it out and so spreads load and speeds up the process.
