For lifetime maps, there should be a card in the package 'Do NOT DISCARD' with the code on it. You connect to Home 2 and log in with an email address/pw to register the UNIT.
Then go to the tomtom.com site, there should be a green TomTom box on the right side. Log in with your email address/pw there.
Then, should be a menu option called 'activation code'. Enter it in the box. If you got the unit with a combo rd-tmc antenna/car charger, then you already have the lifetime traffic; nothing to activate for that.
I thought I had this problem resolved via their 800 number last fall.come to find out no adjustments were made after my call, although I believed I was getting the updates my xxl550tm purported to provide. After calling again last nite, I have had the lifetime maps and traffic added so that it comes up on the screen when I go to TomTom Home. Took over an hour to update it, but what a HUGE difference it made today out on the road. It had gone almost 2 years without a map update, and probably another year behind originally out of the box. Roads that weren't there yesterday suddenly were appearing today.
Don't be afraid to call them.I'm thinking they probably had a BUNCH of xxl's go out with no 'slip' of paper with a code in the box. Just tell them it isn't/wasn't there.
They'll hook you up to what you've paid for.and you will be SOOOOOO happy!!! I also bought a tomtom with the lifetime maps.
I HAD the piece of paper, and I activated it. However, NOW the tomtom is telling me that the maps are 6 months out of date, yet when I connect my device, it does not appear to want to let me get the maps updated without paying. Nobody said I needed to keep the stupid activation code and would have to enter it every single time I went to update the maps. It's REALLY annoying. It's also really annoying that instead of all the info about what I'm using autofilling for me when I try to contact customer support. You have to find the serial number etc etc.
It would be really nice if when my device is connected, it would pull that info FOR me, and just put me thru to a rep via chat or something. I feel like I'm constantly jumping thru hoops. This is not the first tomtom I've owned, and it's not the first time I've had issues.
I really wish my hubby had just let me get him the GPS on his dang smart phone like I use, instead of insisting I get him an actual GPS and keep it updated for him.
