Hi all, I'm new to the video business. I'm a therapist, and am looking to make vlogs, interviews, service/product/topic presentations, etc. I have invested in iPads and iPods for filming, tripods, large green screens, video lights, microphones and stuff. Oh yes, and last of all I have a copy of the good old Adobe Ultra CS3.
What I found so great about this software were the virtual studios that came with it. That along with the easy green screen keying module, made it a no-brainer to use it. I have yet to start with filming, because of course I need to make my scripts first. But now I just learned about Hitfilm 4 Express. To bussy right now to start comparing the two, so I'm asking here.:. Are the two alike?. Are the virtual studios from Ultra CS3 compatible with Hitfilm?.
If not direct compatible, any reason to use Hitfilm for movie and FX creation, then load the movie in CS3 for further rendering?. Effects that are availabale in CS3 are the virtual sets which includes multiple angles, virtual flying camera shots, and places to insert additional video sources or graphics. Can this be done in Hitfilm 4 Express?
Looking forward to start making awsome videos! Hitfilm Express and Adobe Ultra are very different programs.
Ultra was a vector keyer thst could read virtual sets in MFX format and had some nice camera moves. A great, specialized tool. Express is a layer based (and raster) 3D compositor. Hitfilm Express will not be able to do anything with your virtual sets. Then again, nothing from Adobe after CS3 will, either. One would be able to get similar effects in Hitfilm but you won't have the ease of drag/drop templates.
You'll have to spend the time building, lightning and animating your set. Of course you can save that as a template, but it will take time. For full 3D model environments you'd need Hitfilm Pro. Hitfilm Express is more flexible overall, but Ultra is still probably better for you if you already have sets you're happy with. However, maybe you decide you want to do things like have a text object following your hand around as you gesture. Impossible in Ultra, basic in Hitfilm.
Since Hitfilm Express is free, honestly, the best thing to do is just download it, watch some tutorials and play. Perhaps Hitfilm is a better solution for cutting together clips from Ultra or doing creative color grading. Maybe one day you feel like doing an 'Iron Man' HUD-Hitfilm can do that.
